Welcome Message

On behalf of the iCAST, I would like to thank you all for attending the 5th iCAST /CMU/TRUST joint conference held in Taipei on January 7 ~ 8, 2009 and especially the presenters of the technical program from Taiwan and the United States.  At this two-day event, we proudly present what we have accomplished so far through Posters, Demos and Technical Presentations with eminent speakers, like Prof. Edmund M. Clarke, the 2007 Turing Award winner, among others.  Special thanks must go to the Program Committee, co-chaired by Professors Chin-Laung Lei, National Taiwan University, Jung-Hui Chiu, Chang Gung University, Tsuhan Chen, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and Doug Tygar, University of California at Berkeley (UCB); to Dr. Jin-Fu Chang, the State Minister of the Executive Yuan and Honorary Chair of this conference for his continuing support of this project; and to the National Science Council, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Ministry of National Defense for their funding support.

The iCAST project includes members from TaiWan Information Security Center (TWISC), Institute for Information Industry (III), Industry Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and National Defense University (NDU) of Taiwan, in collaboration with the distinguished scholars from CMU and UCB.  Throughout the years, iCAST adheres to the missions and goals of nurturing Taiwan’s top talents in information security, building R&D capacity in information security core technology, and advancing Taiwan’s information security industry thorough international collaboration in the following 3 areas: Pervasive Security and Privacy Assurance, Wireless and Sensor Network Security, and Intrusion Detection and Management.  As iCAST is approaching the mid-term of the third year in Phase I, we are looking forward to and progressing toward fulfilling its missions and enhancing Taiwan’s constant thrust in information security worldwide, while preparing to enter into Phase II of this project. I am pretty confident that we will have a very successful event during which we share and exchange our research findings in a congenial setting.
