Welcome Message from General Chair
It is our pleasure to welcome you all, especially those who have traveled from afar to attend the second iCAST/CMU/TRUST joint conference held at the Howard International House, Taipei, Taiwan on June 4 and 5, 2007. Early this year, we set the conference’s international theme in our first conference: Crossing Boundaries for Computer Security in Academia, Industry and Services. Continuing this theme, we will in the second conference report our collaboration results in the first year and also set the tone and collaboration agenda for the second year.
These results will be presented through Poster Display Boards, Demos, and Technical Presentations. You will find illustrations of all iCAST projects from the Poster Display Boards and observe the demos to witness our accomplishments to date and share our excitements. Additionally, we have a technical program consisting of three sessions, “Pervasive Security and Privacy Assurance”, “Wireless and Sensor Security”, and ”Intrusion Detection and Management”. Invited speakers, most of whom are participants of the iCAST project, are from Taiwan and the United States, thanks to the Program Committee’s efforts, coordinated by our three program co-chairs: Professors Chin-Laung Lei, National Taiwan University; Doug Tygar, University of California at Berkeley; and Tsuhan Chen, Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, we are also thankful for the support of State Minister, Dr. Ferng-Ching Lin, who serves as this conference’s Honorary Chair.
Taiwan has a lot more to offer than its beauty. It is renowned for its friendly people, rich culture, cutting-edge technology, arts, innovation and vivacity. But, what’s more pertinent to this conference is Taiwan serving as a global crossing between East and Southeast Asia, and between the Orient and the Occident. Furthermore, Taipei has emerged as an international city with a wealth of diversity, sophistication and uniqueness. Aside from the technical program, I, as the host of this conference, would strongly encourage you all to take some time to enjoy the culture, surroundings, and scenery of this beautiful island. I’m sure you all will have a wonderful time in Taiwan.
