3. Workshop / Strategic Meeting

In addition to the internal review meeting in the morning, we will have a workshop in the afternoon 2006/11/25, Saturday. This iCAST workshop is designed to provide us an opportunity to dialogue with iCAST industry partners and to discuss our past, present and future (strategic planning). In general, we want to review our past, present, and future; to identify what the industries need most; to discuss the ways to get more involvement and more coordination; to improve our overall outcome. In addition to all iCAST members including students, we will invite the industry representatives.

This workshop will cover four major topics: Core Technologies, SOC, Testbed, and Applications. The applications will include “application in medical/health care environments”, “wireless applications”, etc. Each session will have 3 to 4 presentations (8 minute each) first, then a general discussion.

In several topics, including SOC and Testbed, we have to cover the followings:

             i.                Define the topic - Build one cross academic and industries; e.g. co-develop a SOC or a minimum common set (kernel) which all can share, build a multi-site DETER-like testbed, etc.

ii.                Determine its necessity and potential usability,

iii.                Resource issues: budget, hardware, software, links, maintenance, and others,

         iv.                Management issues and others

The session chairpersons are listed below:

§             From Core Technology to Applications – Wu, T.C. & Yu, S.S.

§             SOC – Lee, H.M.

§             Testbed – Lai, C.S.

Currently, in addition to several members from TWISC @NCTU & @NCKU, we will have guests from Acer (宏碁), Information Security Service Digital United (數聯資安), Trade-Van Information Services Co. (關貿) and Taipei Medical University (台北醫學大學).
