Subject: CITRIS Research Symposium in Taipei on March 27
Dear Friends and Supporters of CITRIS,
CITRIS, the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society, is pleased to announce the second annual CITRIS-Asia Research Symposium: Innovative Technologies in the Service of Society, which will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Barry Lam Hall at the National University of Taiwan, Taipei. This event is co-sponsored by Delta Electronics, Quanta Computer and National Taiwan University and with generous support from the Epoch Foundation. There is no registration fee.
At this meeting, University of California professors and affiliated researchers will give technical talks in three sessions: ¡§The Future of Computing and Communications Technologies ,¡¨ which will be a cross-section of talks covering such topics as advances in wireless and optics communications and new MEMS structures; ¡§Future of CAD/CAM ," which will include presentations on Electronic Design Automation and Computer-Aided Manufacturing; and "The Future of Societal-scale Systems," which will feature talks on such topics as tele-immersion, computer security and sensor webs.
The complete agenda can be found at http://www.citris-uc.org/Taiwan-2007/agenda. Please note that both Chinese and English versions of the announcement are available.
The morning keynote speaker will be Dr. Chenming Hu, professor at UC Berkeley and former Chief Technology Officer at The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, who will speak on ¡§The Future of CMOS Technology.¡¨ The afternoon keynote speaker is Dr. Ernest Kuh, professor at UC Berkeley, who will give a talk entitled, "The Future of Electronic Design Automation." Other prominent speakers include Dr. Paul Gray, professor and former executive vice chancellor and provost at UC Berkeley, in the morning and Dr. Eric Brewer, also a professor at UC Berkeley.
We feel that this setting and the agenda that we have planned gives us a most opportune means with which to interact with you, to give you an update on selected topics from the rich landscape of CITRIS research, and to engage your feedback and comments on our work.
Online registration is available at http://www.citris-uc.org/Taiwan-2007 or you may send a message to citriseditor@citris-uc.org with your name, email address, title, affiliation, and mailing address. We will send back a confirmation email shortly.
We look forward to seeing you later this month at NTU.
Very best regards,
Professor

CITRIS is the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of
Society, a powerful partnership of university, industry, and government, centered
within the University
of California, with main
headquarters on the UC Berkeley campus. Its mission is to create and harness
information technology to tackle some of society's most critical needs. More
than 200 faculty members in engineering, science, social science, law,
information management, health care, and other disciplines at four UC campuses
(Berkeley, Davis,
Merced, and Santa Cruz) are collaborating with
researchers at more than 60 supporting companies on CITRIS research. CITRIS
incubates research on problems that have a major impact on the economy, quality
of life, and pressing global issues, such as: conserving energy; education;
saving lives, property, and productivity in the wake of disasters; boosting
transportation efficiency; advancing diagnosis and treatment of disease; and
expa! nding business growth through much richer personalized information
services. An excellent summary of our work may be found at http://www.citris-uc.org/research/citris_project_list.
