Project 223 (3rd year)

Secure Surveillance Networks

"Secure Surveillance Networks" project is an Int'l project collaborated by ICL/ITRI and CMU. The goal of this project is to design, build and evaluate the infrastructure of a secure surveillance network, and to develop kernel technologies for smart video surveillance system. In previous work, micro-surveillance sensors including hardware support built upon CMU's CMUCam sensor platforms and software support with tracking and visualization algorithms were developed. One surveillance application was also to be prototyped. In the next stage, algorithms for a public security image analysis system will be designed. It will include consistent object discovery to identify keyframes, motorcycle detection, and camera calibration using object movements, such as cars moving on the street. The system will be developed such that it can extract objects from surveillance cameras and extract the potential security breaching objects. The object size is analyzed through camera calibration to enhance further object recognition. A test-bed on real data will be constructed to evaluate and demonstrate the feasibility of the designed system. In the future, the built hardware and algorithms will be integrated into a surveillance total solution.
