Project 303 (1st year)

Investigation on Advanced Remote Authentication Technologies

Mobile Devices are the basis for ubiquitous or pervasive computing environment. High-security remote authentication is a necessary component of a secure and stable mobile digital network. This is part of the main research directions at CyLab at CMU. The internationally acclaimed team at CMU developed many theoretical and practical advances in remote authentication techniques, and this has made CMU as the leader of mainstream research in this area.
We plan to cooperate in depth on the technical and theoretical level over the next three years with the CMU CyLab team. Collaborative research topics include theory and implementation techniques of remote authentication suitable for mobile devices, strong public-key cryptography on low-resource mobile devices, potential applications of pervasive computing techniques (such as 2-d barcodes used in conjunction with camera phones and high-power sensor networks) for remote authentication and control, maintenance of data security and robustness under computational and communications constraints, and key protection in the face of widespread device theft. These advanced techniques are the central to the security of e-commerce and mobile computing in Taiwan's planned wide deployment of mobile devices. We hope to strengthen Taiwan's industrial research into the security of mobile devices and eventually achieve self-reliance in this sector.
